- SHARE WITH US ABOUT THE MONTHS BEFORE YOU STARTED WITH KOA SPORTS, IN OTHER WORDS LETS GIVE CONTEXT AROUND HOW FAR YOU’VE COME
In the lead up to joining KOA Sports as an athlete I felt like I had plateaued, no amount of training or effort was getting me into shape or fitter. Having always been involved in sport this drew me to seek advise into ways to improve myself. The drive to achieve was there but the improvement in figures and times was not having been told you have achieved the best your likely to be.
SHARE WITH US ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR COACH AND WHY YOU THINK THEY’VE MADE A DIFFERENCE
The relationship between Tim and myself is one of mutual respect and mutual drive to achieve. Tim and I are of very similar personality types where not only do we get drive from pushing ourselves to achieve the most but also assisting others and driving others to achieve the most they can of themselves.
Having meet Tim during a race and witnessing first hand the drive he had to push the limits it drew me to know more about his training plan and how he was able to push the barriers. Not knowing he was self coached. The respect I had once I knew this willed me to have the conversation with him to see how together we could push my barrier and achieve what I knew/know I can do. I think the difference we have made together is simply that, the guidance and the goals are set together so that WE can achieve the results.
Knowing the person in your corner has your back and as much drive as you do to achieve the best was not only refreshing but also took a weight off the shoulders knowing if you follow the plan the goals were for the taking.
WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST IN YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS?
The biggest surprise to me was having been in the sport for nearly 2 years prior to joining KOA Sports and always having a coached program I was told I had achieved the best out of myself that I would achieve. Tim wouldn’t let this be the case and the result after the first 6 months and in my first race as an athlete was a huge 18min PB. Something I didn’t think was possible.
Following that has been a consistent top 10 age group finishing result having raced Busselton 70.3 (6th AG and WC 2019 qualification), Sri Lanka 70.3 (6th AG)
Not to mention the Personal Bests across the board swimming times from 2min/100m down to 1:38/100m and running 21.1km Half Marathon 1:29 PB down to 1:21
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE?
2018 World Championships 70.3 in Porth Elizabeth, South Africa
2019 World Championships 70.3 in Nice, France
And the 2 age group results of 6th in my last 2 non World Championship races
HAS KOA SPORTS CHANGED YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF WHAT YOU CAN ACHIEVE?
I wouldn’t say it has changed my expectations, I will say it has made the expectations a reality and have ensured the goals were never forgotten
IF SOMEONE WAS TO ASK YOU… SHOULD I JOIN KOA SPORTS, WHAT WOULD YOUR ANSWER BE AND WHY?
Should I? more like why have you not! The team at KOA Sports takes the time to listen to what you want to achieve. Then spends the time working out and fine tuning the program to ensure the goals can be achieved and the rest is up to you as an athlete, your drive needs to be there but the team will ensure if its there the goals will come.
