I am the Founder of Koa Sports. A FULL TIME Endurance Coach, living and breathing the world of endurance sports, coaching development and athlete success.
Koa Sports is one of Australia's most successful coaching organizations. In 2022 winning IRONMAN Cairns and Busselton Club Championships, as well as having 18 athletes racing in Kona, finishing in the Top 10 Clubs Globally.
My athletes can feel the passion and care. The effort and thought that goes into each session. No workout libraries or drag and drop.
Proper coaching day > day, week > week, month > month.
I care deeply about my athletes, the investment they make, the sacrifices required to make it all happen, it's not easy. As a father of 2 kids, family, work and training can get pretty complicated, but there is always a way! (Testimonials below)
Having a real coach in your corner for the good and the bad, makes the triumphs all the more special. Programs are for robots, coaching is for athletes.
I've graduated from university, come through Triathlon Australia, Swimming Australia and Athletics Australia coaching pathways, but working full time for many years is the greatest teacher of all.
Working with adults, be it first timers or experienced campaigners, every athlete brings new sets of challenges to the table. Ultimately, if you give it all you've got, I'll get the most out of you.
In the same month I've coached an IRONMAN AG Podium in Kona to a first time IRONMAN 70.3 finisher.

ALEX TOLEMAN (FIRST TIME IRONMAN)
2022 was a year for chasing big goals but it meant navigating some logistical challenges to achieve them, including relocating across the country and frequent work and personal travel. Tim has been in my corner as a coach for 4 years and his understanding of what works for me as an athlete and adapting sessions to suit location, times etc. meant we were able to maximize the training plan to get me race ready. The result was a 16-minute PB time at the Cairns 70.3 and completing my first Ironman in Busselton. Thanks Tim!
KIMMO TUUNANEN (KONA AG PODIUM)
Individual coaching based on an athlete's needs has been highly rewarding. Just over a year of coaching has given awesome results Kona qualification, IM European Champion, and Kona 3rd. Working with Tim has been easy and remote coaching works well even living far away in Finland. Tim is always one step ahead of me tracking the training and keeping it consistent. Tim helped me to find missing parts in my training to achieve my goals. Hard work with a high reward!
NICOLA WADEY (IRONMAN AUSTRALIA AG CHAMPION)
Working with Tim throughout 2022 was exceedingly productive and rewarding both in training and racing. Big goals were set which took hard work, honesty, adaptability, encouragement, and most of all trust. Tim worked with me to elevate my physical capability, in addition to creating a mindset to maximise performance. Without Tim’s knowledge, experience, and belief the results would not have been possible. Tim has been an incredibly dedicated and passionate coach always working alongside me, together striving for further progress and aiming for greater goals. The results in 2022 have been more than I ever expected we could achieve.
NATHAN HEANEY (FIRST TIME AG PODIUM AND KONA Q)
After 4 months with Tim Ballintine I easily achieved my 4 x long term IM goals. Previously I was training solo with a 16 weeks generic program. I knew I wasn’t performing to my full potential and to reach my goals I had to change. Tim planned around my long work hours and young family. I did exactly what he prescribed and executed both 70.3 and IM for 16min/40min PBs. I was a fringe athlete into 2nd 70.3 5th IM on my first 2 races. If you do the hours and want results, make the investment into yourself, I wish I did years ago.
Also, the Koa team on race day is incredible, especially other athletes and coaches supporting on course!
BRAD RACO (FIRST TIME KONA QUALFIER)
I highly recommend Tim as a coach to get you to where you want. My progress and results in such a short time have been pretty unbelievable under Tim’s expertise. In 2022 I completed 2 Ironman events, my first in cairns & qualified for Kona (being my 2nd). I was a poor swimmer and had never competitively rode a bike. Following Tim’s structured and periodised sessions, I was able to reach a level of fitness I never thought possible. I finished Kona in a time better than I could have ever expected.
DAVE DEAKIN (70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER)
As a someone who had been in the sport for 8 years across a couple of clubs, I can hands down say that Tim and Koa Sports are the best in the business. I Joined with Koa to get back to form after Covid and I've not only gotten back to where I was but took 30 and 40 mins off my previous best times.. something I never thought I would achieve. Koa not only is helping me achieve my best in Triathlon but also pushing me to new heights in the sport. Heartily recommended.
LUIS PENUELA (AG PODIUM, CHINA)
Season 2022 was a great experience with Tim and Koa sports, although China didn’t have a lot of races going on it was a great year working with Tim , I managed to get a new PR in a half marathon and a third llace in age group for Foshan 70.3, China.
I’m really looking forward to continue training with Tim and can’t wait for the racing season to start and hopefully get on podium .
