SHARE WITH US ABOUT THE MONTHS BEFORE YOU STARTED WITH KOA SPORTS, IN OTHER WORDS LETS GIVE CONTEXT AROUND HOW FAR YOU’VE COME
I had been doing Crossfit for a number of years and felt I was not getting fitter. I was not enjoying the exercise. I was overweight and felt flat. I could barely run 200m without being out of puff. I wanted to do something new. Something exciting and out of my comfort zone.
SHARE WITH US ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR COACH AND WHY YOU THINK THEY’VE MADE A DIFFERENCE
I initially met Greg on 18th November 2016, I had followed Greg’s journey when he cycled around Australia, my husband (Kevin) & I were on our way to Kangaroo Valley NSW and were listening to Greg on the Ray Hadley Radio show & he was going to be in Goulburn that day, we were on our way towards Goulburn & wanted to stop in and say congratulations. We had a great chat about his journey. Following this Greg trained my husband Kevin for a few months in 2017. In the middle of 2018 I saw a post from Greg & he inspired me. There was just something about endurance training & the events that really did spark my interest & I knew that Greg would be that person who could help me. I did feel that Greg had an understanding of what it’s like to make a change, to push yourself to the limit and beyond and how making small changes and being consistent the results will come. I contacted Greg, we had an initial phone call and I was hooked.
WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST IN YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS?
Being able to set some really big goals and seeing them come to fruition. The changes may only be small, but as they say those little 1% gains make big changes in the overall picture.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE?
I had only ridden my road bike about 15 times total from when I purchased it in January 2015. I was so scared to clip in. I started training with Greg in August 2018 & in October 2018 I had finished my first 50km bike ride, by January 2019 I had completed my first 100km, In February & March 2019 I had competed in the Riverina Tri-Series and in this series I completed my first open water swim & my first Olympic distance triathlon. I completed my first ever half marathon only 9 days after being in a terrible car accident & have gone on to finish a half marathon trail run, Wagga Gears and Beers 114km road event & 90km Bowral Classic. All that in one year!!!!
HAS KOA SPORTS CHANGED YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF WHAT YOU CAN ACHIEVE?
Absolutely, the positive attitude and guidance from KOA sports has certainly encouraged me to go further, be dedicated to my training and have that no quit attitude. But I also don’t want to give up or not give 100%. Every coach is supportive and gives you a great feeling knowing that you have a great cheer squad right behind you every step of the way.
The programming is specific to you, not to “the majority” every session is achievable because it’s for you. That is what has been the difference for me. You can contact your coach, ask questions, KOA sports is there to help you achieve your best & they have the best podcasts, very entertaining & full of knowledge. You won’t be disappointed in choosing KOA sports to get you across the finish line every time.
